It seems that RIGO Design will now be a part of the Xiaomi family as the Chinese company has been acquired the design firm to be in charge of its future product’s design. The firm will now be focusing strictly on Xiaomi and will not be accepting any external projects.
RIGO Design was founded back in 2008 and it has collaborated with several companies in the past like Microsoft Corporation, Lenovo Group Ltd for its LePhone UI, and SHARP’s smartphone – the SH8128U. Other than mobile, the company also designs UI solutions for softwares, websites, branding, and several concept ideas for other related products like the Microsoft Surface posted on their website.
Together with the announcement, Xiaomi has posted an employment notice for the team in Beijing. The design firm will now be an independent firm in Xiaomi’s Beijing headquarters, led by the founder of RIGO design, Robin Zhu who is now chief designer in the new department.
With so many products in Xiaomi’s portfolio, ranging from IP cameras to set-top boxes (STP), the acquisition of RIGO design will prove to be beneficial to the company as newer products’ design can be improved upon. It might change the design language of the company’s future products and deter users from referring to Xiaomi as the Apple of China.
