The Sony Xperia Z3+ Is The Xperia Z4 For The Rest Of The World

Sony announced the Xperia Z4 for Japan about a month ago, and it is now bringing that very same phone to the rest of the world. The name will be changed to the Xperia Z3+ for unknown reasons, but Sony’s international flagship smartphone for 2015 will share the same specifications as its Japanese counterparts.

The new name seems to reflect the fact that the new Xperia Z3+ looks extremely similar to its predecessor, the Xperia Z3. It retains the same 5.2-inch 1080p IPS display and 20.7MP rear facing camera; although the 2MP front facing sensor on the Z3 receives an upgrade to a 5MP camera on the Z3+. Other changes are the relocation of the charging port to the bottom of the phone, and removal of the magnetic charging pins.

Internally, the Xperia Z3+ is a completely new phone. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor paired with 3GB RAM, Sony’s latest flagship smartphone should be more than capable of keeping up with the competition from Samsung and HTC. Unfortunately, the battery has been reduced to 2900mAh; although Sony is still claiming that it will hold out for two days.

Sadly, the Xperia Z3+ looks identical to the Xperia Z3; a problem that HTC has already been catching flak for with the design of its HTC One M9. Chances are that Sony will be able squeak by without too many people kicking up a fuss about the design choices, but it looks like the company is simply going through the motions of releasing a flagship phone for 2015; or it could be that Sony is biding its time until it can come up with a real winner.

The Sony Xperia Z3+ will begin going on sale internationally in the summer of 2015, for an unknown price.
