Spec Sheet: HTC One M9 vs. One M9+ vs. One E9+

HTC has released multiple One smartphones in a rather short amount of time. Just yesterday, the company has announced the One M9+ and One E9+ for the Chinese market, which now join the HTC One M9. So how do these three One smartphones compare to each other?

Unveiled back at MWC 2015, the HTC One M9 succeeds the One M8, albeit without much hardware upgrade. The One M9+ and E9+, on the other hand, seemed to come out of nowhere. One would guess that the M9+ is somewhat derived from the M9, but once their specifications are compared, things get a little confusing.

Although both the One M9 and M9+ share quite a number of similarities, the M9 only has a 1080p display in comparison to the the M9+’s 2K display. The M9+ also has a slightly bigger display size of 5.2-inch, which isn’t that much different from the M9’s 5 inch display. Other than that, the M9+ is powered by a Mediatek MT6795T processor rather than a Snapdragon 810 chipset.

The One E9+, on the other hand, has a plastic body with what appears to be a metal strip along its side. Oddly enough, HTC decided to unveil the One E9+ without actually releasing a (presumably) smaller One E9. In any case, the One E9+ should be the cheapest of the One devices, seeing how it has a plastic body and a smaller RAM and internal storage. That being said, it does have the biggest display among the three, not to mention a 2K display.

Once we take a closer look at the specifications, there is one major issue with the One M9+ and E9+: their battery capacity. For some reason, HTC did not fit in a bigger battery inside these two smartphones although both have a 2K display. To make matters worse, the E9+ has the smallest battery capacity even though it has the biggest display among the three. As the One M9 only has a 5-inch 1080p display, it’s almost a certainty that it will have the best battery life.

In any case, these are merely comparisons based on specifications. Only a thorough review can reveal just which of the three HTC One smartphones is better than the others. Hopefully, these devices will be launched in Malaysia soon.
