MWC 2015: HTC Announces Grip Fitness Tracker, Powered by Under Armour

Alongside HTC One M9, the Taiwanese company has also unveiled its first wearable device called HTC Grip. Utilizing the UA Record platform from Under Armour, this is the first product that came from the strategic partnership that both companies announced at  the recent CES 2015.

Built with curved 1.8-inch PMOLED touch display, the HTC Grip is not exclusive to HTC smartphones alone though as it is also compatible with other Android smartphones as well as iOS devices. It also comes with integrated GPS but doesn’t feature a heart rate monitor of its own although users are able to connect it with third-party Bluetooth heart rate monitor.

Designed to cater multiple discipline of sports such as running, cycling and even time spent at gym, the Grip is a IP57-rated device which means it is able to withstand up to 1m of water for a maximum time of 30 minutes. It also able to keep track of sleep just like many fitness oriented wearable devices out there.

Not to forget, the Grip also provides incoming calls and message notifications. Users have the option to reply messages directly through the fitness tracker using a selection of message templates. In terms of battery life, the Grip’s 100 mAh apparent able to provide up to 2.5 days of usage with its GPS turned off and up to five hours with the function turned on.

To be available in three different sizes, HTC didn’t reveal the pricing for its new Grip at its media event today but the company did announced that the device will be first released in North America within spring this year before making its way to other parts of the world at a later time.
