Graphics card manufacturer, ZOTAC has unveiled the SN970, a Steam Machine equipped with an NVIDIA graphics card and is due to be released with the next batch of Steam Machines. If the price of these internals is comparable with modern consoles then Valve may have just won the console wars.
Zotac SN970 will have Intel’s sixth-generation CPU, 8GB of RAM, coupled with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M GPU which is capable of 4K UHD support at 60Hz with the latest gaming technologies like VXGI, MFAA, and DSR. It can also connect up to four displays simultaneously, implementing NVIDIA’s 3D Surround technology with Steam’s Big Picture interface.
For storage, it sports a 64GB M2 SSD as well as a 2.5-inch 1TB HDD. In terms of connectivity, it will have four USB 3.0, two USB 2.0 and two Gigabit Ethernet ports on the back. Additionally, the device has Bluetooth 4.0 and an 802.11ac WiFi networking card under the hood. The SN970 will also ship with a Steam Controller; although that technically means we won’t be seeing it any time soon.
Steam Machine fans should take note that Valve has already announced that Steam Machines will only be available in November, and even the Steam Controller has not been completed yet. Zotac has not provided a price for the SN970, and it is to see how it fits with Valve’s vision of being competitively priced with consoles.
