Dota 2 Asia Championships 2015 Group Stages Begins Today

The wild card qualifier for the Dota 2 Asia Championships 2015 concluded yesterday with Na’Vi and Hyper Glory Team making it to the playoffs. The DAC 2015 is one of the largest Dota 2 tournament after The International and this year is also supporting itself with a crowd-sourced prize pool.

Na’Vi made an interesting team pick against Team Wings in the final round of the qualifier with Tiny playing a support role instead of the usual carry position and the rarely seen Goblin Techies making an appearance. China’s newcomer Energy Pacemaker also proved itself worthy of reaching the semi-final round. However, compatriots Hyper Glory Team proved to be their undoing, EP’s Faceless Void couldn’t do much as he was pinned down early game, allowing HGT’s Viper and Slark to conquer the late game.

Organised and sponsored by Perfect World, DAC 2015 Grand Finals will be held from the 5th to 9th of February in Shanghai, China. Part of the prize pool is being funded through sales of the DAC compendium, which rewards gamers with access to all live matches, as well as in-game cosmetic items. It is sold for USD$9.99 (RM34) and 25% of the compendium sales goes to the prize pool. The base amount was USD$250,000 (about RM908,647) and has skyrocketed to the current amount – at the time of this writing – of USD$2,392,874 (about RM8,697,483). It is still increasing and users can track its progress live, here.

It is exciting to see how far China’s EHOME will go, as it is now home to Malaysian players Mushi and Ohaiyo. These two remarkable players used to be members of Team Orange at The Internationals 2013. Together with KyXy, Net and Xtinct, they achieved third place which really brought hope for the e-sports scene in Malaysia.

The tournament’s official web page can be found here. Those who want to know more about the championships can follow the survival guide. For those who want to follow the DAC 2015 as it happens, they can get match results from joinDOTA and watch livestreams from BeyondTheSummit.
