One of the most interesting things about the year coming to an end is how we get all these summaries on how the year has been. Last week, Facebook released its Year in Review to show the most talked-about topic of the year and now, it’s Google’s turn. The internet search giant recently released its annual Year in Malaysia Search, showing the major events that happened throughout the year, top newsmakers and hottest trends based on searches performed on google.com.my.
Taking up the top spots in Malaysia’s Trending Searches of 2014 are MH370 and MH17, taking the first and third spot on the list respectively. World Cup 2014 takes the second place, providing a temporary relief from the two Malaysia Airlines tragedies, and Astro Awani comes in fourth as it became a highly sought after online news portal for round-the-clock live coverage on the air tragedies. Other top search keywords in Malaysia includes the affordable energy efficient car “PeroduaAxia”, online public school management “SPS”, our government’s financial aid program “BR1M”, the launch of Google “Street View”, “Malindo Air”, and “RinduAwak 200%”.
As for the Trending People of 2014, Karpal Sing’s death on 17 July made him the most searched person of the year on Google Malaysia’s search engine, followed by Robin Williams’s suicide. Taking the third place is Hollywood actress, Jennifer Lawrence, and Malaysian model FelixiaYeap comes in fourth, while celebrity gossip magnet HanezSuraya rounds off the top five people searches in Malaysia.
There’s also a section for trending Mobile Searches of the year where we see similar items as the Trending Keywords like World Cup 2014, MH370 and MH17, but it also has other keywords too like “iPhone 6”, “Dorothy Hodgkin”, “Olympics Charter”, “Yasmin Ahmad” and “HoniboShusaku”.
