Viber just announced a new feature on its Viber app called Public Chats that claims to offer users a “new kind of social experience”. Starting immediately, just give your Viber app an update, and you’ll see a new tab called Public Chats. Give that tab a tap, and you will see public profiles of local and international celebrities, personalities and brands that you can follow.

Sounds familiar? “Public Chats” is basically another platform that allows you to stay up to date with things that you care about the most like your favourite celebrity, YouTube sensation, online publications and such. Follow people like Perez Hilton, Pixie Lott and even local environmental conservation organisation, WWF-Malaysia, and find out what they’re up to.

Just open up Public Chats and see who you can follow. These personalities can share conversations like text, photos, audios, videos, web links and of course, stickers. Viber says the most popular chats will be featured on the home screen of the Public Chats session of Viber. Users can easily search to find out who is chatting, or access a chat directly through a customised URL

“The release of Public Chats on Viber allows people to interact in a new way, listening in on live discussions and staying up-to-date with exclusive content from the people and subjects that matter to them most. We are launching this concept with a great line-up of celebrities and personalities all over the world.  They are opening up their conversations on Viber, and we’re sure our users will love the ‘fly-on-the-wall’ experience this delivers.” — Talmon Marco, Viber CEO.

To kick things off, Public Chats already has a handful of celebrities and personalities from around the world like Tyler Oakley, DJ van Dyk, COPA90, and many more.
