Samsung Is Discontinuing Laptop and Chromebook Sales In Europe: How About Malaysia?

Truth to be told, Samsung has been around in the laptop industry for quite some time even though the company might have been channeling a lot of effort into these smartphones market these day. Among products that the division have announced earlier this year are the ATIV Book 9 2014 Edition Ultrabook and Chromebook 2.

However, things might change soon as the Samsung has decided not to release new laptops and Chromebooks in Europe.

This fact was revealed through a statement from Samsung, as shown below:

“We quickly adapt to market needs and demands. In Europe, we will be discontinuing sales of laptops including Chromebooks for now.

This is specific to the region – and is not necessarily reflective of conditions in other markets. We will continue to thoroughly evaluate market conditions and will make further adjustments to maintain our competitiveness in emerging PC categories.”

While Samsung was quick to point out that this decision is made only for Europe but we can’t help to feel rather curious when we realized that Samsung Malaysia’s website no longer has laptops as part of its product category. The same case goes for Samsung Singapore’s website as well but on another hand, mobile computing category still exists on Samsung Indonesia’s website.

Since Samsung Chromebook in Malaysia is available only from Yes 4G, we doubt that it will be gone from our market anytime soon.  However, we don’t want to jump on any conclusion based on these simple observations which is why we have reach out to Samsung Malaysia for their take on our curiosity.
