AXA Affin wants you to be a better driver. Of course, there’s an app for that: the new AXA Drive app, which has seen over 400,000 users worldwide, is now available in Malaysia.
The AXA Drive app, which was developed by an AXA employee from Italy, uses your smartphone’s various sensors including GPS and accelerometer to determine how well you drive. It allows users to easily track and analyse their driving. Points are given based on three critical driving criteria: acceleration, turning and braking. The app also leverages on Google Maps’ API to record your drive, indicating where you’ve made sharp turns, accelerated too much or braked too hard.
On top of that, the UI of the app also offers a real-time preview of your drive. Whenever you’re driving and the UI shows a green circle, you’re driving well. Yellow circles indicate that you’re driving a little more dangerously, while a red circle means you should probably retake your driving test – it means you’re taking the corners too quickly, braking too hard or wasting fuel by accelerating too much.
The AXA Drive app employs a basic gamification model to encourage engagement for users. The points you earn will help you level up, unlock badges and share your scores with your friends on social media. AXA Affin says that it “has plans” to reward users more with the points in the future, but did not elaborate further.
An upgraded version of the app is already being used in Europe, and the company hopes to bring an adapted version of it to Malaysian users – but again, the company did not provide further information.
The AXA Drive app is now available for free from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
