Remember back in April it was reported that Facebook will stop allowing users to message using its main Facebook app, forcing them to download and use its dedicated Messenger app instead? Well, it looks like it will be happening really soon. According to TechCrunch, over the next few days, Facebook will completely disable messaging within its main app for iPhone and Android devices.
This is nothing new of course, Facebook users in the Europe have already been forced to use Facebook Messenger since April, and after seeing “positive results”, the social networking company has decided to roll it out worldwide. If you load message on Facebook app on your device, you should see a message encouraging you to download Facebook Messenger.
“In the next few days, we’re continuing to notify more people that if they want to send and receive Facebook messages, they’ll need to download the Messenger app. As we’ve said, our goal is to focus development efforts on making Messenger the best mobile messaging experience possible and avoid the confusion of having separate Facebook mobile messaging experiences. Messenger is used by more than 200 million people every month, and we’ll keep working to make it an even more engaging way to connect with people.”
As for mobile web, iPad, feature phone, Windows Phone, Paper and desktop users, everything will remain the same…for now at least. Back in March, Facebook killed off the Messenger app for the Windows desktop platform.
Don’t be too upset though, apart from wasting a little bit more space to install an extra app, Facebook Messenger is faster, cleaner and more fun to message on. The company claims that the Messaging app is 20% faster and by removing messaging in its main app, it means that it could be better too.
