The sardonic narrator from the Stanley Parable has joined Dota 2 as an announcer. Like the other announcer packs, the narrator will replace the usual voiceover announcing what has been going on. Unlike the other announcers, this narrator has a larger meta-awareness of what is going on.
“The pack inserts the Narrator and his particular brand of sardonic meta-commentary into Dota 2, rendering the game not only understandable but even downright accessible to the common layperson,” said developer Davey Wreden.
Stanley Parable has been lauded as a thought provoking game that explores the idea of free will within the confines of a video game. There is no violence or combat, instead allowing players to do as they wish while the narrator tells them what is expected. Following the story (or not) provides multiple endings; all of which take a small amount of time to reach.
As part of the celebration of the announcement, the Stanley Parable is 50% off on Steam; while the announcer pack has is on 10% discount for the first 48 hours of going live.
