League of Legends will be beta testing a new queue option where players will choose their role, position, and Champion before looking for a game. In theory, this will allow for more balanced teams and prevent players from being forced into a specific role due to the choices of their team mates.
The beta test will happen on live servers, with each region taking turns to run the test for 48 hours. It will begin with RU and EUNE on 3-7 March; with the rest of the schedule outlined on the announcement post.
Players who choose the Team Builder option for matching making will have the option of queuing as either a Team Captain or Solo. Captains are the ones who will select the teams, generally according to a master plan they have in mind; while Solo players will be assured of being able to play their preferred role and Champion. There is no enforced meta, so teams that appear will be whatever the Captain decides it should be.
The FAQ admits that there will be some heroes that are just less popular and therefore won’t be picked as often. But it is also quick to point out that the games those heroes enter will actually have people who are alright with your unusual choice.
