MWC 2014: HTC Announced Desire 816 and 610, Positions Them In Mid-Range Market

HTC at Mobile World Congress 2014

If there is one brand that I personally didn’t expect to come and deliver new products (in public) at Mobile World Congress this year, that brand would be HTC. This is mainly because HTC has scheduled another press conference in March where its next high-end flagship device is expected to be announced there.

Nevertheless, HTC is present at Barcelona this year and has launched two new mid-range LTE-enabled smartphones: the Desire 816 and Desire 610.

Featuring a 5.5-inch 720p display, the HTC Desire 816 runs on a 1.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor alongside 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB worth of internal storage together with the support for MicroSD card of up to 64GB. The device is also equipped with 13-megapixels F2.2 rear camera and 5-megapixels F2.8 front camera.

As you can see from the image, the Desire 816 is also built with a pair of stereo front facing speakers just like the previously released HTC One. However, its unibody chassis is apparently made out of polycarbonate rather than metal. With a thickness of 7.99mm, the 165 grams smartphone also features 2600mAh battery.

Meanwhile, HTC has also applied the same design from Desire 816 onto the Desire 610 complete with the front-facing stereo speakers. That being said, the Desire 610 does feature a smaller 4.7-inch 960×540 display though. It is also powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. The built-in storage of Desire 610 is identical to Desire 816 at 8GB which can be supplemented further with MicroSD card of up to 64GB.

HTC Desire 610

In terms of photography, the HTC Desire 610 also comes with an 8-megapixels rear camera and 1.3-megapixels front camera. To complete the package, the HTC Desire 610 is equipped with a 2040mAh battery.

HTC didn’t reveal any pricing for either of the devices although the HTC Desire 816 will be heading to China next month before making its way to the rest of the world in April. As for HTC Desire 610, it will be released in Europe this coming May.
