A recording of a swamp in Kubah National Park, Sarawak has been voted the most beautiful sound in the world according to a recent online competition. The competition was launched in last October by sound expert Julian Treasure in collaboration with the BeautifulNow association.
The 12 finalists were chosen by Treasure and Bernie Krause – who is considered to be one of the worlds’ leading nature sound recordist. These final 12 were then voted on by the internet to determine which is the most beautiful sound they have ever heard.
Most of the entries were from natural environments, despite the competition being open to all sounds. Other recordings included cats, babies, and a bridge. Treasure, however, describes the winning entry as “like a symphony of life just expressing itself”.
