More builds of Android 5.0 Lollipop have been popping up ever since Google released the source code last week. Sony and LG appears to have started on their work quickly as evidence of the early builds have begun to show up.
Leaked screenshots of the LG G3’s early build of the 5.0 Lollipop have begun circulating around the web. According to Phone Arena, LG has confirmed that the G3 will be receiving the 5.0 Lollipop update by this year, while the G2 will receive it sometime in 2015.
From the image above, we can see that LG has the card-based notification system Android 5.0 introduced, but did not use the new on-screen button icons. This could be due to the fact that this screenshot was captured from an early build of Android 5.0.
Sony, however, took it to themselves to do the teasing by releasing a video of the entire Xperia Z series running on the AOSP build of Android 5.0. At this point it is likely to be a proof of concept that all three of Sony’s Z series smartphones are capable of running the latest version of Android. Given that this is an AOSP build and not the full Google release, it may still take some time before Sony pushes out the Android 5.0 update with its Xperia UI on top.
It looks like almost every Android phone manufacturer is busy building their own builds of Android 5.0 Lollipop. Just last week HTC One M8’s version of their 5.0 Lollipop has been leaked, with HTC’s VP of Product Management, Mo Versi confirming that the update would come within 90 days from 4th November. This commitment is part of the HTC Advantage program, which promised timely software updates and other benefits for its flagship devices.
