HTC has finally taken the wraps off its crazy new smartphone, the Desire EYE. Featuring 13MP rear and front cameras, this new smartphone promises to take selfies to a whole new level.

The new Desire EYE, unlike other Desire smartphones, packs pretty powerful specs. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 2.3GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, and features a 5.2-inch Full HD display, with 16GB of internal storage as well as a microSD card slot that supports up to 128GB cards. This 4G LTE device also packs a 2400mAh li-po battery, which is rated for up to 20 hours of 3G talktime.

On top of that, the Desire EYE is also IPX7 rated for water resistance, and is made with a double-shot plastic unibody construction that’s also visible in the recently-announced Desire 820 smartphone. Not to forget, the BoomSound speakers are also present, as are three mics for improved audio capture with noise cancellation.

And then, there’s the most interesting aspect of the Desire EYE: the dual 13MP camera sensors. Unlike the Oppo N1, which packs a rotatable 13MP camera sensor, the Desire EYE packs two 13MP camera sensors. The rear camera is a 13MP f/2.0 BSI with a 28mm wide-angle lens. The camera supports HDR, Full HD recording, and dual-tone LED flash. On the other side, the front camera features a 13MP f/2.2 BSI sensor with a 22mm wide-angle lens. Just like the rear camera, it also supports HDR, Full HD recording and packs a front dual-tone LED flash. And, the front camera packs auto-focus with zoom capability.

The Desire EYE’s unique camera proposition isn’t just about the dual high-resolution cameras. Alongside the Desire EYE, HTC also introduced the HTC EYE Experience, an evolution to HTC’s zany camera software capabilities. With the EYE Experience, there is a host of new features, such as Face Tracking (with advanced face-tracking technology that always keeps your face in the frame, in focus), Screen Share, Split Capture (which records on both the front and rear cameras in a split-screen view), Face Fusion (a crazy app that fuses two faces into one totally un-generic face), Live Makeup, Auto Selfie (which snaps a selfie once the user keeps the phone still for two seconds with the front camera app activated), Photo Booth and lastly, Crop Me In (another insane app that crops the subject in the front-facing camera into the frame of the rear camera).

The HTC Desire EYE will be available globally from this month in the US, EMEA region and Asia. And just likethe RE camera, HTC did not disclose the retail price.
