Just moments ago, Acer Malaysia has taken the drape off a new laptop for our market but as opposed to most of the company’s other laptops which are usually made for mainstreams users, this particular model is designed for multimedia and gaming. It comes with feisty name too.
So, here it is: say hello to the new Acer Aspire V15 Nitro Black Edition.
Also known via its model name VN7-591G, Acer is not kidding when it claimed that the Aspire V15 Nitro Black Edition has gaming-grade hardware within it. We are looking at a 15.6-inch full HD IPS display alongside 2.5GHz Intel Core i7-4710HQ processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M with 2GB GDDR5 RAM, 12GB of RAM and 1TB hybrid hard drive.
Not enough with that, there are also the Acer Invilink Nplify 802.11n dual-band Wi-Fi, Gigabit LAN, three USB 3.0 ports, and full-size HDMI port. To complete the package, Acer also included a fiery red-colored backlit keyboard into the laptop as well as four speakers with Dolby Digital Plus Home Theatre enhancement, a 720p webcam and a card reader.
To take a glimpse at the level of performance that the Aspire V15 Nitro Black Edition is able to provide, we ran Battlefield 4 at 1080p with High graphics preset on the laptop. At the end of our quick run through the early part of Singapore mission in the game, it managed to churned out an average FPS rate of around 48fps which means that the laptop is able to surpass our minimum level of playable FPS rate of 30fps.
Additionally, we also ran a quick benchmark using the Sky Diver test from 3DMark:
With a maximum thickness of 23.9mm, the laptop itself is not too heavy at around 2.4kg. In terms of design, one of the first thing that one would notice on the laptop is its lid which features texturized vertical patterns. The laptop is almost fully draped with soft touch, rubber-like material with the exception of the hinge area which is coloured in silver.
That being said, the hinge area also feels and looks rather very plastic. Meanwhile, all of the I/O port on the laptop are also curiously located at the right side of the laptop. Unfortunately, this particular model doesn’t come with an optical drive although the left side of the laptop seems to have enough space for it.
