Android Lollipop Statue

Last night, Google decided to surprise the world by announcing new Nexus devices – Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player. The company also announced the final name for Android L with a follow-up video to its Android L audition video shared yesterday, crowning Lollipop as the winner so ladies and gentlemen, say hello to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

What’s an Android version if it doesn’t come with its own statue in Mountain View campus? Not too long after the Android 5.0 Lollipop announcement, the company also gave Lollipop its own mascot on Google’s Lawn. Watch the video below as Google takes the curtain off the Android bug holding an oversized pinwheel lollipop.

Android 5.0 Lollipop will debut in the newly announced Nexus devices (Nexus 6 smartphone, Nexus 9 tablet and Nexus Player “Android TV”), and will be available on older Nexus devices– Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, as well as Google Play Edition devices in the coming weeks.

Android L was first announced in Google I/O back in June 2014. It has a beautiful new design language called “Material Design”, that will stretch across the entire portfolio from Android to Chrome OS and beyond. What Google is doing is bringing depth to the interface, replacing the rather dated Holo UI with a more colourful, responsive version of the OS. The interface is a little more responsive and you can sense depth from the animations and transitions, from slide in’s (complete with a Z scale component so a card casts shadow on the layer below) to rippling effects on the screen.
