I guess we don’t have to wait till IFA 2014 to see new smartphones, Sony just announced the brand new Sony Xperia M2 Aqua, a waterproof smartphone with an affordable price tag.

As leaked about a month ago, the Xperia M2 Aqua is a mid-range smartphone with LTE capability in a water-resistant body. The device features identical specs with the existing Xperia M2, except that you can probably bring it along to your shower, take it for a dip in the pool and maybe play the newly launched Underwater Apps made by the Japanese company.
The Xperia M2 Aqua features a 4.8” qHD display with a resolution of 540 x 960 – that’s a pretty poor pixel density of 230ppi. It is powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor with Adreno 305 graphics on board and 1GB of RAM. Other specs include 8MP rear camera and Sony’s suite of creative Xperia camera apps, LTE connectivity, 2300mAh battery with STAMINA Mode, NFC, 8GB internal storage expandable via microSD slot, and will run on Android 4.4 out of the box.
The Xperia M2 Aqua will roll out from “Autumn 2014” to markets including Latin America, Asia Pacific and Europe. Sony didn’t mention any price but the existing Xperia M2 in Malaysia costs RM799 for single-SIM and RM939 for dual-SIM, so we guess the price shouldn’t be too far of. The M2 Aqua is already listed in the Malaysian Sony Mobile website as “coming soon”, along with the pretty new Xperia C3 selfie phone from the company.
