Dropbox recently announced a price drop for its cloud storage, offering a whopping 1TB of storage space for a dramatically cheaper price of USD$9.99 a month (USD$99/year). Prior to this, 500GB of space on Dropbox used cost USD$49.99 a month or USD$499 a year.
With this change, it means that Dropbox is now more competitively priced compared to other big players out there like Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive and even Apple’s iCloud. If you still remember our cloud storage price comparison post a couple of months back, Dropbox was one of the most expensive option out there. Apple is the most expensive of them all but at the WWDC 2014 in June, the Cupertino company announced a much cheaper iCloud storage plan from USD$0.99/month for 20GB, and offers tiers up to 1TB.
Unfortunately though, Dropbox is only offering one upgrade option for its users. The company offers 2GB for free for a basic Dropbox account, and there’s only one Dropbox Pro option that gives you 1TB of space for a monthly price of USD$9.99.
Nonetheless, this is definitely great news for consumers. Just about a year back, cloud storage used to be so expensive and was not something an average person like myself could afford. Since Google announced a price drop earlier this year, a lot of other cloud storage players have been following suit and now, anyone can afford to store their data in the cloud.
