Xiaomi Malaysia Drops Mi 3 Retail Price to RM769, Effective Tomorrow

Effective from tomorrow’s Xiaomi Malaysia sales, the company has slashed RM120 off the retail price of its flagship smartphone, the Mi 3. The Mi 3 will now cost a mere RM769, a very low price for a Snapdragon 800-powered smartphone.

Naturally, many Malaysian consumers are already up in arms over the price cut. Already in its announcement post on Facebook, there are countless angry comments raging on the price cut. Many seem to be frustrated by the fact that the price cut occurred so soon after Xiaomi Malaysia sold 10,000 units of the Mi 3 at RM889.

On a related note, Xiaomi Singapore also slashed its retail price of the Mi 3 shortly after it went on sale in the country several months ago. [UPDATE] It has also announced a SG$40 price reduction for the Mi 3, effective immediately. Nevertheless, at the new retail price of RM769, the Mi 3 presents even better value for money considering its hardware.

On the other hand, this price reduction could indicate that the company may be ready to bring in new devices to the country. We already know that the Redmi 1S and the Redmi Note are on their way; while they’re not flagship devices by any stretch of the word, it is unlikely that the rumoured Mi 3S will be coming anytime soon, given the scarcity of information or leaks about the device.
