Whatsapp has been removed from the Windows Phone Store; apparently for the developers to fix existing issues with it. User who have already installed the app will be able to continue using it, however it can no longer be installed on new devices. Searching the Store returns a “We couldn’t find a match. Try a different spelling or search term” message.
The popular instant messaging app has been malfunctioning on Windows Phone 8.1, although it works reasonably well on Windows Phone 8. It is puzzling as to why the developers would remove Whatsapp from the Store due to it not functioning with an operating system still in the developer preview stage.
Whatsapp is claiming to be working closely with Microsoft to resolve issues and will make the app available again shortly. One can assume that the issues discovered involved a crippling flaw with how both Whatsapp and Windows Phone 8.1 interact. It may also be that an update to Whatsapp to make it compatible with the next Windows Phone update causes it to stop functioning properly with previous iterations of the operating system. Whatever the reason, new Windows Phone users will have to do without Whatsapp for a while.
