Motorola has announced the new Moto E, the company’s latest affordable Android smartphone that heralds the start of the end of the feature phone for the company. Featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor and a generous 1GB of RAM, the Moto E will retail for just $129 (about RM420).

The Motorola Moto E is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 1.2GHz dual-core processor with an Adreno 302 GPU, and sports 1GB of RAM. There’s also 4GB of internal storage, but its microSD card slot supports up to 32GB cards. For the display, the Moto E is equipped with a 4.3-inch 540 x 960 screen – touted to be the sharpest in its class – with an anti-smudge coating and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. This 142g device also has a 1980mAh battery, and runs on Android 4.4.2; Motorola also guarantees at least one major software update after its release. Interestingly, Motorola opted for a 5MP rear camera sensor without a flash module, and no front facing camera. The rear camera also only captures up to 30fps 720p videos.

And, as with the Moto G before it, the 3G-capable Moto E sports interchangeable back covers – called Moto Shells – with plenty of colour options. The device also features an anti-splash coating against water – though it is important to note that this does not mean the Moto E is water resistant. A popular feature phone capability – FM radio – is also built-in as standard on the Moto E.

Motorola is clearly aiming for the emerging markets with the Moto E. While it is available now in its US webstore for $129, it is also now available in India for 6999 Rupees – that’s about RM380. It is very likely that the Moto E will also be making its way to other countries, including Malaysia – though Motorola has not revealed availability in other countries just yet.
