While the finalized version of Windows Phone 8.1 will only be meeting existing Windows Phone 8 devices in few months’ time, there is one device that already comes pre-installed with it. Of course, that said device is the new Nokia Lumia 630 which has just arrived in our market last week.
First introduced at the recent Microsoft Build Developer Conference few months ago, the Lumia 630 model that is released into our market also supports dual SIM cards – the first such Windows Phone device that is equipped with that feature. That’s not all, though.
Comes standard with a 4.5-inch 854 x 480 ClearBlack IPS display that is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3, the Lumia 630 is also powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor. That being said, the size of RAM on the Lumia 630 is rather small by today’s standard though at 512MB which is accompanied by similarly small 8GB worth of internal storage.
That doesn’t mean the device is sluggish though as Windows Phone 8.1 is still able to run smoothly on the device. Meanwhile, the Lumia 630 only comes with a single 5-megapixels autofocus camera on its rear and not equipped with a flash. Not to forget, the capacity of Lumia 630’s battery is rather small as well at 1830 mAh.
According to Microsoft, the Lumia 630 has a maximum 3G talk time of up to 13.1 hours, 3G browsing time of around 8 hours, and standby time of up to 25 days. Interestingly, the Lumia 630 supports MicroSD card with storage of up to 128GB – a level of storage that many smartphones out there are not able to support just yet. Additionally, users are also able to project contents from Lumia 630 to other display wirelessly via Miracast.
When it comes to physical design, the Lumia 630 is pretty much aligned with the standard design language of Lumia series. With a thickness of 9.2mm, the 134 grams device features a removable cover made of polycarbonate that are available in several colorways such as bright yellow, white, and black. There is no camera button on Lumia 630 though and the three standard Windows Phone buttons (Back, Starts, and Search) are now located on the screen itself instead of dedicated physical touch buttons.
As you can see, the Lumia 630 might looks bare in terms of features which is rather expected from a device that is relatively designed for entry-level and budget users. Price-wise, the Lumia 630 is quite affordable at RM 549 although it is definitely facing a tough battle against the increasing amount of low-cost, high-specs smartphones that are starting to pop up in our market.
Nevertheless, the Nokia Lumia 630 is now the new base standard for Lumia series as far as the Windows Phone 8.1 era is concerned. Well, that is until Microsoft Mobile able to come out with an even more affordable Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone.
