Source Code Reveals Malaysian Retail Price of the Huawei Honor 3C

Huawei Honor 3C

The Huawei Honor 3C will officially be launched in Malaysia on the 29th of April, which is next week. In the meantime, Huawei Device has begun hyping up the Honor 3C by offering 100 units for free to anyone who can guess the final retail price of  the company’s latest smartphone – which has started quite a buzz locally.

One of our forum moderators has tipped us that the HTML code within Huawei’s new online retail store, Vmall.my, actually contains a string that shows the RRP of the Honor 3C. And no, it doesn’t look like it’ll be priced under RM600.

Lowyat forum moderator, Mengsuan, shared with us the screenshot above, which is the HTML code for Huawei’s Vmall.my online store page for the Honor 3C. In it we can see two similar paragraphs of code, one each for the black and white model of the Honor 3C, with the specs list underneath. There’s even a “coming soon” string below that, which corresponds to Vmall’s front page (see screenshot below).

Now here’s where it gets interesting. Below both listings of the Honor 3C is a string of code that shows the retail price of the device. From the image above, we can see that under “prices” there is a line that will publish RM880 but is hidden from view in the front page. (Mengsuan has highlighted the first instance of RM880 in the HTML code).

So have we found the final retail price of the Huawei Honor 3C? There’s a very high chance that it is, judging that this price is hidden in the HTML code of Huawei’s retail site. But, we won’t be surprised if the final retail price changes either. Our initial sources told us that the Honor 3C would be priced below RM600, but at the same time we also heard murmurs that even when the “Guess the Price” contest was held, Huawei’s internal management hadn’t yet confirmed the RRP, meaning that the contest itself could just be a tool to gauge consumer expectations.

And even then, the mechanics of the contest is not as simple as being the first 100 to guess the RRP and walk away with the Honor 3C. In the Terms and Conditions of the contest, it is shown that participants would also need to answer other trivia questions before submitting their estimated RRP. On top of that, multiple entries are also encouraged, which will naturally slim down the chances of any individual of winning.

Finally, even when you have correctly guessed the RRP, you will need to be the first 100 to key in a voucher code in the Vmall,my website before you’re finally selected as a winner.
