The new Oppo N1 is now available in Malaysia, and Oppo is touting the prowess of its swiveling 13MP camera sensor as one of the best around. At the launch event held yesterday in Kuala Lumpur, we had a brief encounter with the company’s flagship smartphone to test out the low-light capabilities of the device. Check out some sample images after the jump!

At the launch event venue, the lighting conditions were generally very bad, not to mention the amount of green spotlights roving about at the top of the ballroom. Nevertheless, Oppo also set up a low-light photography booth with dark walls to show off the N1’s low-light imaging prowess. With the N1 mounted on a tripod with a willing model as a subject, here are some sample images taken with the Oppo N1:

As can be seen from the sample images above, the best conclusion that we can make of the N1’s camera is that it delivers mixed results. On the first two images, the diffused flash mode didn’t seem to light the subject very well, but as can clearly be seen on the third and fourth sample images, the output can be pretty good, too.

However, all images exhibit an astonishing amount of noise, with one image (not posted above) also not in focus. Do note also that the images featuring the model was snapped using the O-Click Bluetooth tag she was holding, which opens up a whole lot of selfie options. And, while these images may not be very good for professional purposes, they are more than passable to be shared on social networks. Add that to the hints we got that the O-Click will retail for RM150 or less, we could be looking at the ultimate selfie smartphone right here with the Oppo N1.

Naturally, we’ll be going more in-depth with the imaging capabilities – and the device as a whole – when we receive our review unit of the Oppo N1. Stay tuned!
