Mantle API

Months after it was first announced at AMD press event in Hawaii alongside the company’s new Radeon R9 and R7 range of graphics card, the Mantle API is now finally available for Battlefield 4. This is done through the latest update for the game which was released to gamers just few hours ago.

Developed by AMD and EA DICE, the Mantle API is designed to help developers reduce CPU overhead in their renderings as well as to tackle the issue of CPU bottleneck that plagues many PC out there. To drive their point, EA DICE has included their own test results using three PC setups that represent multiple scenarios as shown below:

In order for gamers to actually play Battlefield 4 with Mantle renderer, they do need to meet several requirements first. Of course, one being supported AMD products such as Radeon R9 290X, R9 290, and R7 260X as well as Kaveri-based A-Series APUs. Second, the game must run on 64-bit version of Windows regardless of Windows 7, 8, or 8.1.

Last but not least, gamers must also install the new AMD Catalyst 14.1 beta driver. However, the release of this particular driver has been delayed by AMD at the very last minute. If you are eager to give Mantle a go with your machine, patch up your Battlefield 4 with the latest update through Origin and visit this particular page often to check the availability of the Catalyst 14.1 beta driver.
