Many, including us, assumed that Lenovo updated the original IdeaPad Yoga with the Yoga 2 Pro, one of the best consumer-grade Ultrabooks around. Turns out, Lenovo had more Yoga devices in mind, and the company has announced the new IdeaPad Yoga 2 multi-mode laptop here at CES 2014.
The new Yoga 2, which comes in 13- and 11-inch variants, complements the more premium Yoga 2 Pro with mid-range specs. As before, the Yoga 2’s hinges still allow the display to be flipped 360 degrees, allowing it to be used in four distinct modes. Thankfully, the Yoga 2 still offers some pretty good bang for the buck. The display for the 13-inch has been bumped to a Full HD touch display and the latest Intel Core i5 processor (increasing the battery life to eight hours), but maxes out with a hybrid hard disk drive instead of an SSD.
As for the 11-inch Yoga 2, the biggest bump here is in the software – bye bye Windows RT, hello Windows 8. There’s a quad-core Intel Bay Trail Pentium processor, an 11-inch 1366 x 768 IPS touch display, six hours of battery life and up to a 500GB hard drive. Interestingly, despite the updated (and significantly more powerful) hardware, the Yoga 2 11 is only about 45g heavier than the ARM-based IdeaPad Yoga 11.
The new Lenovo Yoga 2 11 will debut later this month in the US at a starting price of $529 (about RM1770), while the Yoga 2 13 will be available in the US in early February from$999 (about RM3350).
