Store your phone number on Facebook? Well it looks like it may have been leaked, on Friday last week, Facebook admitted that 6 million of its members’ phone numbers and email addresses were accidently leaked…for an entire year. Since 2012, Facebook users who downloaded contact data for their list of friends were able to receive additional information that they were not supposed to have.
The glitch was discovered last week and was resolved within 24 hours but the social network only alerted the public on late Friday because it is part of the company’s procedure to notify regulators and affected users before making a public announcement.
“We currently have no evidence that this bug has been exploited maliciously and we have not received complaints from users or seen anomalous behavior on the tool or site to suggest wrongdoing.” – Facebook Blog.
More information available at Facebook’s security blog. Thankfully, only users’ phone numbers and email addresses have been leaked. Facebook mentioned that these information were not connected to any Facebook users or even names of individuals so your information are still safe, sort of. No further information like financial details or other personal info have been leaked, but you know what? If you do not wish to have your personal information
