When it was first revealed at CES 2013 earlier this year, the Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra is touted as the world’s thinnest smartphone. While we have no idea if that claim still stands today but once we held the device in our own hand, we now can see why Alcatel One Touch dare to make such a bold claim.
Despite its 6.45mm thin profile and weights at around 115g which essentially gives a premium vibe to the smartphone, the Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra is positioned as a mid-range device. The thin profile seems to come with one major drawback: there’s no 3.5mm audio jack on the device. Instead, the device is provided with a USB-based adaptor.
Powered by the MediaTek MT6577+ chipset which features a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU and PowerVR SGX 531 GPU, the Android 4.1 smartphone comes packed with 1GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage although it doesn’t support storage expansion since the smartphone doesn’t come with a microSD slot. At the same time, the Alcatel One Touch Ultra also come with a 4.7-inch 720p AMOLED display that is covered by a Corning Glass and oil-repelling oleophobic coating.

In terms of photography, the Alcatel One Touch Ultra features an 8-megapixels camera with LED flash and 720p video recording capability as well as a 1.3-megapixels 720p front-facing camera. Not to forget, the device also comes with a non-removable 1820mAh battery with a standby time of up to 400 hours and 3G talk time of 7 hours.
