If you think that Google shutting down Google Reader is a bad thing, wait till you check this out: Google will be shutting down its YouTube services. Introduced eight years ago, YouTube’s mission from day zero is to find the best ever video that has been “submitted” to its website. It will no longer be accepting “submissions” and Google will be introducing the winner when the clock strikes 9am PT on 1 April 2013. There will be a live stream for the special event, so tune into YouTube in approximately 14 more hours to catch the moment you’ve all been waiting for.
But don’t be too upset yet because not all’s lost. Google introduced a new Treasure Mode on its Google Maps. While out on a quest in the Indian Ocean, the team from Google found a collection of maps that belonged to the famous pirate, William “Captain” Kidd. Unfortunately though, the map contains a variety of encrypted symbols that the team cannot decipher. Google has decided to gather forces from around the world by digitizing the treasure map and making it accessible to everyone. You can access the Google Maps G+ page and work together with everyone around the world to decipher the clues to the map and hopefully, discover hidden treasures.
Have fun this April Fool’s morning, it’s definitely a great way to start the week. More information about YouTube in this link and about the treasure map in this link.
