In a move that resembles mobile phone industry, the people behind the Android-based Ouya gaming console is planning to release new version of the console on annual basis. This fact was revealed Ouya’s CEO, Julie Uhrman in an interview with Engadget at DICE 2013.
That means users will able to see the successor to the original Ouya which will be released later this year way faster than how traditional gaming consoles such as PlayStation and Xbox usually do. It is not a huge surprise though as Ouya is powered by a mobile processor – a 1.6GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, to be exact – and the future Ouya consoles are expected to retain this particular feature.
Additionally, games on Ouya are associated to users profile rather than attached to the actual console which is similar to how Valve’s Steam operates. Hence, there shouldn’t be any problem for consumers to run their games on future Ouya consoles despite purchasing them for previous hardware. In theory, at least.
The console which will be priced at around RM 308 (USD 99.99) is expected to arrive in the market sometime in June 2013.
