If you’re active on instagram, you’ll have seen various reposts by your friends of accounts like this saying that if you like, follow, repost their image, you will be rewarded with all manner of freebies like vouchers, free coffee and even a free bottle of Moet for being the first 5000 or so followers on the account.
Here’s a friendly public service announcement from the Lowyat.NET team.
IT’S A SCAM. DON’T FOLLOW THESE ACCOUNTS.
The premise is to get all the followers in the world, then the scammers will edit their name from something like HMMALAYSIA to something more suited to their actual business and then BAM, instant user base of 5,000++++ followers. Let’s have a think about the legitimacy and give the benefit of the doubt for a second. Aside from the idea that there seems to be a mass understanding on the denomination of vouchers to give out across all these different clients from different walks of life, let’s take “H&M Malaysia’s” promotion.
RM200 vouchers for first 5000 followers = RM1,000,000
“Zara Malaysia” is RM100 Vouchers for first 10,000 Followers = RM1,000,000
Was there a memo on how much you’re allowed to spend on an instagram account promotion that has circulated?
Well don’t feel bad if you were taken in by this syndicate because hey, I wouldn’t mind a free bottle of Moet or a voucher from Adidas. Now just unfollow the accounts in question, report the accounts to instagram and like and share this post, the first 5000 will get RM100 voucher to use.
