As expected, Nokia has announced the much-rumoured Lumia 1520 at its Nokia World 2013 event. It is the company’s first-ever phablet running on Windows Phone 8, utilizing the latest GDR 3 update of the OS.
The Nokia Lumia 1520 has a 6-inch Full HD display – the first for any Windows Phone device – and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. Round the back, the Lumia 1520 also sports a large 20MP PureView camera sensor with OIS and a similar lossless zoom capability as the flagship Lumia 1020 – though the lossless zoom has been reduced to 2x instead of 3x on the Lumia 1020. However, unlike the 1020, the Lumia 1520 does not have a large hump at the back. Instead, it has a more subdued Lumia 925-style hump that allows it to maintain a relatively slim 8.7mm chassis.
Nokia’s famous hardware know-how is further cemented here with its new Nokia Rich Recording capability. There are four microphones on the Lumia 1520, which allows for directional stereo output in video recording – a first for a mobile device. As for storage options, the Nokia Lumia 1520 has 32GB of onboard storage, and a microSD card slot that supports up to 64GB cards.
The new Nokia Lumia 1520 will be available in four colours – red, yellow, white and black – and will be available in this quarter in seven countries in the first rollout: the UK, US, France, Germany, China, Hong Kong and Singapore. It will retail at a retail price of $749 (around RM2320).
