Blizzard has just released a tantalising teaser page that possibly confirms the existence of Diablo III’s first expansion pack. A page went live recently bearing the extension “reaper-of-souls”, possibly indicating the title of the expansion pack. Further investigation by Joystiq also revealed that the image file name on the site is called “d3x_teaser_en_us.jpg”. Gamers familiar with Diablo’s naming convention will know that files for the Diablo 2 expansion pack, “Lord of Destruction”, bore the string “d2x”.
As for the teaser site itself, there is nothing but the words “Death, at last, shall spread its wings over all” – an excerpt from the Book of Tyrael, a Diablo 3 companion book that will be released in October 1 for $40. Perhaps Blizzard may just spring a surprise by also announcing the Reaper of Souls expansion on that date? More importantly, will the expansion bring back players left frustrated by the game’s many shortcomings?
