HTC Announces the One Mini: LTE and UltraPixel Camera in a Mid-Range Device

We knew it was coming for a while now, but HTC has just taken the wraps off the new HTC One Mini. Featuring an almost identical outer shell as the flagship HTC One, the One Mini promises to offer a similar user experience as the HTC One in a smaller package that is easier on the wallet.

Article continues after the break.

The new HTC One sports a 4.3-inch Super LCD 3 720 display, offering a pixel density of 341ppi – nowhere near the One’s astounding 469ppi, but is still not distinguishable to the naked eye. HTC’s latest device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with an Adreno 305 GPU. There’s 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage space – though there is no microSD card slot to further expand it.

Round the back, HTC has fitted the same 4MP UltraPixel camera on the One Mini as it has on the flagship One, so users can expect a similar image quality from the device as on the HTC One – with the exception of the omission of integrated Optical Image Stabilisation that the One boasts. In front, the One Mini is fitted with a 1.6MP backside-illuminated front-facing camera. On top of that, the nifty camera software on the One can also be found here – Zoe, Video Highlights and even slow motion capture are all on the One Mini, as is the ImageChip 2 image processing engine.

Of course, a smaller body means some features from the HTC One will be omitted on the One Mini. There’s no NFC, while the IR blaster has also been removed. The non-removable battery is now only 1800mAh, too. However, HTC has retained the BoomSound dual front-facing speakers on the One Mini, and the sexy aluminium unibody has also been faithfully recreated into a svelte 122g body which tapers at the edges. The HTC One will also ship with Android 4.2 on board, with the Sense 5 UI layer on top, featuring the BlinkFeed home screen.

The new HTC One Mini will be available two colours (Glacial Silver and Stealth Black)  in “select markets” from August, while the device will be launched globally beginning from September. Prices has not been revealed, although it is expected to be “two price points” lower than the One.
