Alcatel may have only jumped into the smartphone bandwagon just last year, but it looks like they’re catching up really fast. The company just announced a brand new Idol X that packs a super phone specs into a pretty affordable package. First up, while not as thin as the 6.45mm Idol Ultra sibling, the Idol X is pretty sexy measuring at only 7mm thin with a super narrow bezel of only 2.4mm surrounding its 5” 1080p IPS display.
On the inside, it comes with a 1.2GHz MediaTek quad-core processor and as with most of Alcatel’s phones, it comes with many different configurations for different markets – 13MP or 8MP camera, 8GB of internal storage expandable via microSD slot or 16/32GB non-expandable storage space, and dual- or single-SIM configuration. Connectivity wise, it uses 42Mbps HSPA + connectivity with quad-band GSM and offers dual-band UMTS in different frequencies.
As for mid-range Android device, Alcatel also announced its Alcatel One Touch Star that packs a 1GHz dual-core processor, a 4” WVGA AMOLED display, 5MP rear camera, 1,500mAh battery and single- or dual-SIM configuration. No pricing has been announced for the One Touch Star yet but as with most Alcatel devices, it should be very affordable, bringing high-quality smartphones to the people at a competitive price.
Finally, Alcatel also announced a brand new device that runs on the upcoming Firefox OS – Alcatel One Touch Fire . It may not be the prettiest handset available but what makes it interesting is the fact that it is one of the few devices where Firefox OS will debut on at launch. Spec wise, the One Touch Fire features a 3.5” HVGA TN display with 1GHz Processor, 250MB RAM, 512MB of storage and a 3.2MP camera. Since Firefox OS is targeted at the emerging markets, its low specs allow for a very affordable price that is suitable for first time smartphone users.
