To all who are using Avira’s security products and planning to switch to Windows 8 soon, there’s some bad news for you. While plenty of companies in the industry have already announced their latest security suites that are compatible with Windows 8, all of Avira’s security software are not compatible with Microsoft’s latest operating system.
Some users unaware of the issue had installed Avira’s antivirus software on their freshly-installed Windows 8 OS, only to be hit with a BSOD, requiring a tedious manual uninstall. It wasn’t long after that Avira’s COO issued a statement, confirming the matter:
“Microsoft is working hard to get users to upgrade to Windows 8 so we’re aware of the risk that we may lose some customers. Windows 8 offers improved built-in security features so the challenge for all anti-virus vendors is to add value. We want to provide matching features and functionality and are working diligently on Windows 8.”
What’s worse, Avira does not expect full compatibility for its products with Windows 8 until the first quarter of next year. Those using Avira and planning to upgrade to Windows 8 soon might want to check out other free antivirus software available in the market.
