Western Digital has recently announced its latest storage system for the Malaysian market: the My Book VelociRaptor Duo dual-drive storage system for the Mac OS X. Aimed at creative professionals and power Mac users, the VelociRaptor Duo has two 1TB WD VelociRaptor drives inside running at 10000 RPM.
To ensure no bottlenecks in data transfer, the VelociRaptor Duo is fitted with two Thunderbolt ports, resulting in SSD-like data transfer rates of up to 400MB/s. For example, it can transfer a 22GB full length HD movie in less than 65 seconds, or over 500 5MB songs in less than 8 seconds.
In addition, the twin Thunderbolt ports also allow for daisy-chaining of multiple VelociRaptor Duo drives and other high performance peripherals, without any impact on performance. Also, the dual drive nature of the VelociRaptor Duo means the system offers RAID 0 or RAID 1 configurations. Finally, it is also compatible with Apple Time Machine and HFS + Journaled out of the box.
The WD VelociRaptor Duo is now available at selected retailers in the country with a 3-year warranty at a price of RM2699.
