Nokia Announces Here Mapping Service, Coming to iOS and Android

Hate your iPhone because of the new mapping service that received nothing but bad news with its outdated map? I do, in fact, I’d rather rely on road signs than Apple’s very own mapping service, but the days of going back to the old-school methods of travelling will soon be over because Nokia recently introduced Here, a mapping service for the desktop and mobile browser, and according to the company, it will be coming to Android and iOS too in a few weeks.

We can’t confirm that the maps used by Nokia is 100% reliable, but Nokia powers maps for a list of services such as Garmin, Bing, Yahoo Maps and more so I guess it should be at least more reliable than iOS Maps. According to Stephen Elop, Chief Executive Officer of Nokia Corporation, the data location is “very, very fresh” and while we haven’t actually brought it to the road for a test, yet, it does look pretty good on my desktop right now. I just did a quick search for “Publika” because iOS Maps still has no idea what that is and keep showing me directions to “Public Cab”, and it does bring me to the exact location.

Everything looks really good so far, the only problem is it doesn’t have live traffic like Google Maps but I do like its interface. Check out Here on m.here.net. The app for iOS will be available on App Store when it’s ready and will be free for users to download. As for Android, Nokia is just releasing a toolkit for developers. If you can’t wait for the actual app, you can also use it on your mobile browser right now. Test it out and let us know if you like it.
