Sony’s New Xperia Smartphones Unveiled at IFA: Xperia T, V and J

A few hours before Samsung’s “Unpacked” event at IFA early this morning, Sony held their own IFA event, which, among others, unveiled the latest range of Xperia smartphones: the T, V and J.

The flagship device will be the Xperia T. With a 4.6-inch 720p screen, it comes equipped with the latest Snapdragon S4 dual-core Krait CPU running at 1.5GHz, Adreno 225 GPU and 1GB of RAM. In addition, the screen is also made of shatterproof and scratch resistant glass.

At the back, there’s a 13MP camera with LED flash which records 1080p videos. There’s also a front-facing camera capable of recording 720p videos. Built-in storage is respectable as well, at 16GB, with an option to expand via microSD slot.

Sony also introduced the new NFC feature called “One Touch”, which allows users to sync the phone’s music playback to any supported speaker.

Unfortunately for us, the Xperia T will come in two variants: an LTE version and an HSPA+ version (called the Xperia TX). Us here in Asia will be getting the Xperia TX, which is slightly slimmer at 8.6mm and has a lower battery capacity at only 1750mAh. It is also very likely that the CPU will be downgraded to the older Snapdragon S3 architecture.

But, fret not for the Xperia T as James Bond himself will be using this phone in his latest movie, “Skyfall”.

Read on after the jump for details for the Xperia V and J.

The Xperia V is the slightly smaller brother to the flagship T, with a 4.3-inch 720p screen. It does, however, share the same innards as the T (LTE-enabled, CPU, GPU and RAM) and similar 13MP camera. Built-in storage is smaller at 8GB, but that is redundant as there is a microSD slot.

The main difference is the Xperia V’s IP57 certification. Similar to the Xperia Go, it is fully dust-protected and is able to last for up to 30 minutes under 1m of water.

Finally, there is the Xperia J, the budget-conscious edition of the new Xperia range. It has a 4-inch screen with a resolution of 854×480 with Gorilla Glass, which is pretty impressive for its expected price range. Inside, sadly, there is only a single-core 1GHz Scorpion CPU and only 512MB of RAM. Its built-in storage is also smaller, at only 4GB, but is expandable by microSD.
