Remember that OnePlus contest that required girls to take a picture of themselves and let the guys vote in order to stand a chance to win an invite to buy the OnePlus One? Needless to say, that contest didn’t go very well – prompting an apology from OnePlus. So what did the company do this time?
Shortly after HTC finally unveiled the One M9 smartphone at MWC 2015, OnePlus posted this onto its official Facebook page:
And we’re lucky enough to have captured it before OnePlus removed it
It was probably meant as a cheeky dig at the design of HTC’s latest flagship, which appears to have remained the same for three iterations now. But coming from a young company with only one smartphone ever released, the post struck a nerve even among its fans – some of whom are still unhappy with the limited availability of the OnePlus One. The internet didn’t explode this time round, but from the number of negative comments, but it was enough for the company to pull what we’d like to call a “ninja edit”.
Almost immediately after that jest was posted, OnePlus removed the post, and shared another one to praise HTC instead. At a time when the news were coming in thick and fast, many completely missed it.
That’s how it’s done, OnePlus, it’s great to be humble
Of course, that didn’t stop OnePlus from taking a dig at Samsung. Shortly after the South Korean company announced its next flagship smartphones – the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge, OnePlus posted this:
A more straight forward dig at Samsung’s “Six Appeal” teaser
Thankfully, the less cheeky jest proved to be balanced enough not to warrant a similar response as the HTC post. Although OnePlus is not present in MWC 2015, the is clearly aiming to shift some attention its way.
