Rapid KL operator Prasarana has announced that the upgrading works for Phases 2 and 3 of the Kelana Jaya LRT Line’s signalling system have been rescheduled to start on 6 September instead of the earlier announced date of 9 August. According to the company, the delay allows for further testing of the new Phase 1 signalling infrastructure under live operating conditions, which is seen as essential to ensure long-term reliability and minimise the risk of future disruptions.

The upgrade introduces the SelTrac Generation 8 signalling system, which promises enhanced cybersecurity, better communication stability, and real-time data capabilities. The modernisation is expected to extend the operational lifespan of the existing infrastructure by up to two decades. The overall upgrade is part of a long-term mitigation plan put in place following a significant signalling system failure in November 2022.

Phase 1 of the project, which involved areas around the depot, was completed during night maintenance hours without affecting regular train services. Phase 2 will now take place over several dates in September and October, specifically on 6, 7, 14, 15, 21, 27, 28 September and 11, 12 October, covering the stretch from KLCC to Gombak. Meanwhile, Phase 3 is scheduled for 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 29 and 30 November, and will involve stations between Lembah Subang and Ampang Park.

During these upgrade periods, affected stations will only begin operations at 9am instead of the usual 6am. All other stations not involved in the testing will operate on the normal schedule.

To mitigate commuter inconvenience, free shuttle buses and vans will be deployed to connect the impacted stations. Prasarana added that on-ground support will also be provided, with station staff, auxiliary police and trained volunteers assisting passengers at key locations. Informational signage and printed guides will be available at stations and bus stops to aid navigation during the disruption.
