BYD Malaysia, after teasing a new model for the local market recently, released an image on its social media platforms yesterday. The picture highlighted the rear silhouette and taillights of the upcoming vehicle.
From the teaser, it’s clear that the next model will be a sedan. However, it’s unlikely to be the Seal 06 EV, as initially rumoured. Unlike the Seal 06’s signature L-shaped taillights, this model features a more angular, trapezoidal design similar to the “infinity” lights on the Atto 2.
Additionally, taking a closer look reveals that the rear is shaped in an ‘X’ design integrating the rear bumper and a diffuser. All of these design cues point to the BYD Qin L EV, which was launched in China in March this year.
In China, the mid-size sedan is available in three variants, differentiated by driving range. It sports a full-width L-shaped light bar at the front, complemented by angular headlights and slim integrated daytime running lights.

Inside, the cabin is powered by BYD’s DiLink 100 smart cockpit system, which integrates DeepSeek’s AI model. It comes equipped with an 8.8-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch floating central display. Other features include a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, paddle shifters, and remote control via mobile phone. Meanwhile, the top variant gets a 12-inch W-HUD, while the floating screen is upgraded to 15.6 inches. The cabin in the top trim is also enhanced with a heating and cooling refrigerator.
The BYD Qin L EV is built on the BYD e-Platform 3.0 Evo and measures 4,720 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm. For performance, the sedan is offered with two rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor options, with outputs of 110 kW / 220 Nm of torque and 160 kW / 330 Nm, respectively.

The first option is paired with a 46.08 kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate battery, delivering a CLTC range of 470 km. Meanwhile, the second option comes with a 56.64 kWh Blade battery, providing a CLTC range of 545 km.
On the safety and technology front, the Qin L EV is equipped with BYD’s “God’s Eye” C (DiPilot 100) driver assistance suite. This three-camera solution enables high-speed navigation on autopilot, intelligent parking, automatic emergency braking, and blind spot monitoring, among other functions.

The system is supported by five millimetre-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 12 cameras. Additional features, such as memory navigation, will be introduced via OTA updates and sentry mode is also included for enhanced security.
However, this brings us back to the name of the new model coming to Malaysia. BYD has confirmed that the new model will feature the number “6” in its name, suggesting it could be marketed as the Seal 6 EV. This lends weight to the possibility of the Seal 6 EV being prepared for export, rather than the Qin L EV, which belongs to the Dynasty series rather than the Ocean range.

Nevertheless, both vehicles are not that different from each other. Although visually distinct, the two cars share many similarities inside. Does this mean the Malaysian market will be getting the Qin L EV rebadged? Well, we will have to wait and see.
