The monthly Shah Alam Car-Free Day will be happening this coming Sunday, 13 July. In conjunction with the event, there will be road closures. This was announced by the Shah Alam City Council on their Facebook page.
Road closures will affect areas around Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam and Tasik Barat, including the main thoroughfare connecting both locations, which passes by SACC Mall and the MBSA headquarters. The closures will be in effect from 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM. There are also designated parking areas during the event for those who will be joining.
If you’re unaware, the Shah Alam Car-Free Day began back in the year 2017. Since then, the event has been conducted by the city council once every month. The purpose of the event is to create a community that practises a healthy lifestyle, apart from reducing the use of motor vehicles on the road and minimising carbon footprints.
Furthermore, the event allows families with young children, cyclists, rollerbladers, skateboarders, as well as hoverboard and blade scooter enthusiasts to have a space to enjoy their time. Additionally, there will be many activities conducted during the event, such as running events.
Therefore, people around the area affected by the road closure are advised to plan their morning journey to avoid any disruption during the event.
