THS, the developer of the upscaling technology, Lossless Scaling, recently released what is being described as a “major update” for the upscaling tool. The new update, officially known LSFG 3.1, offer a new mode known as “Performance Mode”.
As per the update on THS’ Steam page:
-
The new mode provides up to 2× GPU load reduction, depending on hardware and settings, with a slight reduction in image quality. In some cases, this mode can improve image quality by allowing the game to achieve a higher base frame rate.

LSFG 3.1 also comes with quality improvements, including enhanced overall image quality within a specific timestamp range, improved quality at lower flow scales, reduced ghosting of moving objects, reduced object flicker, improved border handling, and refined UI detection.
As a quick primer, Lossless Scaling and the self-named utility was developed by what is essentially a one-man show. It is a GPU-agnostic tool, providing an alternative to the current upscaling technologies – NVIDIA’s DLSS, AMD’s FSR, and Intel’s XeSS.
Of course, it goes without saying that Lossless Scaling is far from perfect, as are the other major upscaling technologies; the tool will leave some level of mental trauma if you are a pixel peeper, while Tom’s Hardware says that it still has issues with Frame Generation. That said, if you’re interested in checking out an alternative to what is currently on tap, you can purchase the tool for a one-off payment of US$6.99 (~RM30).
