Huawei has officially unveiled the MateBook Fold Ultimate Design in China, its first-ever laptop with a foldable display. As you may recall, the device was teased by the company last week, showing only glimpses of its design. With this recent launch, we now know how it looks, as well as what specifications it offers.
The new MateBook Fold is its flexible 18-inch OLED display, which folds down into a more compact 13-inch form. It offers a resolution of 3.3K, a refresh rate of 144Hz, and a peak HDR brightness of 1,600 nits. Huawei also claims this is the world’s first dual-layer OLED panel on a foldable PC, backed by three carbon fibre support layers for enhanced durability and triple the impact resistance of conventional designs.
Impressively, the laptop measures just 7.3mm in thickness when unfolded, and weighs at only 1.16kg. The construction features a basalt waterdrop hinge with a three-stage shaft and a mortise-and-tenon structure. This design allows the display to fold smoothly while maintaining long-term structural stability, supporting a full 180-degree fold.

Huawei has not disclosed the exact CPU powering the MateBook Fold, but it is revealed that it packs up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of NVMe PCIe SSD storage. Also onboard is an advanced thermal management with diamond aluminium dual fans and “antigravity” vapour chamber cooling, as well as a a six-speaker system enhanced by Huawei Sound technology. Additionally, pre-installed on the device is Huawei’s own HarmonyOS 5 (Harmony NEXT) platform.

Unsurprisingly, the Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate Design is revealed to be significantly pricey, starting at CNY23,999 (~RM14,295) in China. It is unclear whether the company will release the foldable display laptop internationally at this time.
