Sigma’s new compact full-frame camera, the Sigma BF, has officially launched in Malaysia today. It is now available to pre-order through authorised dealers nationwide, including ShaShinKi and YL Camera. However, the company notes that deliveries will take about three months due to production limitations.

To recap, the BF features a unibody design – the first to be carved from a single block of aluminium. Sigma has kept the number of buttons and dials to a minimum, only limiting them to essential photography functions, in order to achieve a clean yet minimalist look. In terms of dimensions, the camera measures at 129.5 x 73.7 x 35.6mm and weighs at 388g. Colour options include Black and Silver.

There’s also no hotshoe connector for any external attachments nor a viewfinder, as framing is solely dependent on the 3.15-inch 2.1M dots LCD viewfinder on its back. Meanwhile, in front is a mount that supports L-Mount interchangeable lenses from Sigma itself, as well as other alliance members like Panasonic and Leica.

As for specifications, the Sigma BF has a 35mm 24.6MP full-frame back-illuminated CMOS sensor, a native ISO range of 100 to 102,400, and a hybrid autofocus system with phase and contrast detection as well as accurate subject recognition. Video-wise, the camera is able to capture up to 6K resolution and supports L-Log recording in H.264 and H.265 formats. It achieves up to 29.97fps in 6K and 4K, and 119.88fps in Full HD 1080p.

Unlike conventional cameras, it comes with a built-in 230GB SSD, while data transfer (and also charging) is handled via USB-C. Another first is the BP-81 removable battery that’s unique to the BF, which is rated by CIPA to deliver 250 pictures per charge. Other than that, the BF includes 13 color modes, which includes the likes of Standard, Rich, Calm, Powder Blue, Warm Gold and Cinema.

For the local market, the Sigma BF is priced at RM9,688 for body only. There’s also a bundle which includes the brand’s 35mm F2 DG lens that’s going for RM12,688.
