Canon has unveiled the EOS R50 V, a new variant of its entry-level EOS R50 mirrorless camera from 2023. The new model builds on the foundation of the original, adding improved video capabilities, a more compact design and a lower price.
One of the key upgrades in the EOS R50 V is its ability to record 4K video at 60fps, up from the 30fps limit of its predecessor. It also incorporates features from Canon’s video-centric PowerShot V1, making it the company’s first true mirrorless camera designed specifically for vlogging.

The EOS R50 V includes several manual controls, such as a primary control dial on the top, a zoom rocker for compatible lenses, and a distinctive mode dial that offers quick access to vlogging and video settings. Among these are Movie Auto Slow Shutter, Slow/Fast Motion Recording, and Movie IS Mode. The camera also features a fully articulating 3-inch display for vloggers, though it lacks an electronic viewfinder.
Equipped with a 24MP APS-C sensor, the new model supports Canon’s C-Log3 profile and 10-bit 4:2:2 video recording, enhancing dynamic range and colour depth. It can capture full-width supersampled 4K at 30fps, cropped 4K at 60fps, and 1080p at 120fps. For photography, it supports continuous shooting at 12 fps with the first-curtain shutter and 15 fps with the electronic shutter, all while maintaining autofocus tracking.

While the R50 V does not include in-body image stabilisation, it offers optical stabilisation with compatible lenses and electronic stabilisation for additional shake reduction. The camera also utilises Canon’s Dual Pixel II autofocus system, which provides face and eye detection along with subject tracking for people, animals, and vehicles.

Catering to content creators, the R50 V includes vlogging-oriented features such as a product showcase function and focus breathing correction. Additionally, a dedicated button enables instant livestreaming across multiple platforms via UVC/UAC, HDMI, Camera Connect, and Live Switcher Mobile multi-camera mode. Connectivity options include a single UHS-II card slot, an LP-E17 battery, and various ports, including microphone, headphone, microHDMI, and USB-C.
For the US market, the EOS R50 V is priced at $650 (~RM2,880) for the body alone or $850 (~RM3,767) when bundled with the RF-S 14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ lens, which is also available separately for $330 (~RM1,462). Local pricing has yet to be announced, but Canon Malaysia has confirmed that the new camera is slated to arrive by late April 2025.
